Owlcrate is a popular YA Book Subscription box that has a fabulous reputation. I have been subscribing to this box since June 2016 and have loved receiving Owlcrate and look forward to future boxes. Each month there is a theme and the theme for January is:
This is what you see when the box is first opened.
The first item in the box is this soap shaped like a book from Tea, Soap, Books. This soap is inspired by The Secret Garden.
The next item is this Mint and Rose Herbal Tea from First Edition Tea Co. The tea is inspired by The Little Prince.
Next is this magnet with a beautiful print inspired by The Phantom of the Opera.
The next item is a watercolour bookmark with a quote from Slaughter House Five.
This calendar is from Obvious State and the art for each month is inspired by different classics.
There is also a promotional poster for a new graphic novel, Wires and Nerves by Marissa Meyer. I have this book on pre-order form The Book Depository.
The final item before the book is this button which has features in the last couple of Owlcrates with an image that is linked to the spoiler card.
The book for this month is:
In this modern day spin on Leroux’s gothic tale of unrequited love turned to madness, seventeen-year-old Rune Germain has a mysterious affliction linked to her operatic talent, and a horrifying mistake she’s trying to hide. Hoping creative direction will help her, Rune’s mother sends her to a French arts conservatory for her senior year, located in an opera house rumored to have ties to The Phantom of the Opera.
At RoseBlood, Rune secretly befriends the masked Thorn—an elusive violinist who not only guides her musical transformation through dreams that seem more real than reality itself, but somehow knows who she is behind her own masks. As the two discover an otherworldly connection and a soul-deep romance blossoms, Thorn’s dark agenda comes to light and he’s forced to make a deadly choice: lead Rune to her destruction, or face the wrath of the phantom who has haunted the opera house for a century, and is the only father he’s ever known.
I also had to mention that the text in this book is RED!!!
There was also a letter from the author…
… and a signed bookplate.
Here is a look at the Spoiler card for this month. The image on the card is that of an old fashioned theatre.
The last item in the box is the sneak peek at next months box. The theme for the February Owlcrate box is:
RUNAWAY WITH THE CIRCUS
That’s it for the January Owlcrate box. My favourite item was the calendar and I am planning on reading RoseBlood in February.
