But they’re not the only ones looking for Rose. The reclusive, young gentleman Sebastian Braddock is also searching for her, claiming that both sisters have special healing powers. Evelyn is convinced that Sebastian must be mad, until she discovers that his strange tales of extraordinary people are true—and that her sister is in graver danger than she feared.

REVIEW:

This book is a mixture of X-Men and Pride and Prejudice and is absolutely addictive. The main drive of the plot was Evelyn’s search for her sister, Rose. The introduction of special abilities that some people have gives this historical Victorian novel an X-Men feel.

Evelyn is a strong-willed and powerful character. Evelyn’s journey through the novel reveals suck information about this world that she did not know existed. There is the semblance of a love triangle within the book, but the main drive is the sister relationship. Rose is only in a tiny portion of the book but is the drive of the story.

Overall, superpowers in a historical setting makes for an intriguing read focusing on the bond of sisters. The plot was captivating and the pace was quick and fun. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
