In a city of humanoid animals, a hustling theater impresario’s attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates even as its finalists’ find that their lives will never be the same.
This is a cute animated movie that gives animals humanistic characteristics, goals and ambitions. One particularly headstrong Koala is on the verge of bankruptcy and comes up with a plan to hold an X-Factor type singing competition for others with the aim of saving his theatre. There are some powerful and amazing voices in this movie and some great pop songs that will find you singing along. The main high point of this movie for me was the private lives of the contestants. Rosita was a particular favourite of mine. This house mom figure dreams of something bigger, but with a large young family she must find a way to juggle both of her lives. The other character I found particularly interesting was Johnny, the Gorilla. Johnny is the son of a crime boss and he is required to continue on the family tradition. He loves singing though and cannot resist this competition, also the money would help his father out of a jam. The high note of this movie was the personal lives of the menagerie of characters.
