REVIEW

With intriguing world building and fantastic characters, this short and sweet novel provided a sound basis for the continuation of this serial series. A wonderful concept that truly made for a magical read. Ling was an interesting and believable character who held my interest. The writing itself was easy to follow and engaging for me as a reader. The ending was abrupt and I can understand this from a serial point of view, but it just didn’t sit right with me. I am biting at the bit to continue this story and reengage with the characters that I am really enjoying.

Now that Lia and Clay’s love has broken the Little Mermaid’s curse, everything has changed. Will Lia’s family remain on land, leading the only life she and her sisters have ever known, or will they move below the waves, to the sparkling new capital city? Lia is adamant about staying on land with Clay for her senior year. But at Melusine and her father’s trial, new revelations threaten what Lia holds most dear.

The verdict will shake Lia’s whole world, calling into question her future with Clay, her feelings for Caspian, and the fate of all Merkind. As she wonders who to trust, Lia sets out on a treacherous path that will lead her away from her sheltered Malibu home to a remote and mysterious school for Mermaids—Mermaids who may hold the secret to ancient magic Lia can use to either get back all she’s lost or to embark on a thrilling and dangerous journey.

REVIEW:

This is a mermaid series that I can seriously get behind. I really enjoyed the new take on The Little Mermaid presented in book 1. Book 2 takes this to a whole new level, reaffirming my enjoyment and adoration of this series. Without spoiling the first book, Submerge starts where the first book ended and hooked me all over again with the mermaid mythology and the characters. It was riveting. This is a series I positively enjoy and love this different take on these sea creatures we all love.

REVIEW:

This is a magical retelling (kind-of) of The Little Mermaid. This book follows the descendants of the Little Mermaid and has a new take on an old tale. There is so much mermaid mythology in this book and how it interweaves with the characters everyday lives is enchanting. The juxtaposition of normal everyday lives with the mermaid way of life was very interesting and not something I have ever read before.   Aurelia is a fascinating protagonist who is finding her legs and trying to make the right decisions, while not always doing so. I was entranced on this new take of the Little Mermaid and what it offers, not only for retellings, but for YA in general. There is some elements that are expected within the genre but overall it is a charming mermaid book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

BLURB:

Ann, not Annie, is tired of her nominal existence and has vowed to turn things around by dating the hottest guy in school, Jacob Waters. Easier said than done since Jacob isn’t even aware she exists. The truth is, due to Ann’s lively temper she spends more time in detention with the rest of the school rejects than she does fantasizing about Jacob Waters wearing spandex.

Her best friend and devout alien believer, Lisa, doesn’t like the changes she’s seeing in her BFF. Neither does Danny Feller, a fellow detention inmate and resident lost boy who has started keeping an extra watchful and unwanted eye on Ann.

When a chance encounter in an empty hallway changes everything, Ann finds all her dreams coming true and she is well on her way to living the perfect life she’s always wanted. But appearances aren’t always what they seem and Ann is going to have to face not just cold hard facts, but also her past.

REVIEW:

This truly was a book of self-discovery and growing up. Ann is a character that makes decisions, whether they be good or bad that really affect the journey she is making as a person. She has some sad backstory that helps the reader empathise with her as a character. Some relevant issues were touched upon in the novel in a way that was very well done. I found that a lot of things were touched upon in this book that can lead to further examination of oneself and the people around you. It really is a book people should pick up, not only for enjoyment value (which is there) but for the message. Overall, a satisfying read with important issues discussed that will leave you thinking after closing the covers.

Nico knows the kind of man he is, and the things he is capable of, and he will do everything in his power to help Sophie fight her demons so they can have their happily ever after. Everything in life worth having is worth fighting for.

REVIEW:

Just when I don’t think this series can get any better, this book comes out of nowhere and hits me in the feels. Sophie and Nico are amazing together and talk about a meet cute! As always, the plot focuses mainly on the romance with family drama and a little suspense all thrown in.

I wasn’t sure about Nico from the cover but he is the very definition of “don’t judge a book by the cover”. These Mayson men are too good to be true. Sophie is sweet and good natured and a perfect match for Nico. These two together were perfection.

Another amazing book in the Until Series by Aurora Rose Reynolds. I almost cried when I thought that was the end of the series but there is a spin-off with the children all grown up… time to search out Book 1.

Isobel is a prodigy portrait artist with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread, weave cloth, or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobel’s paintings are highly prized among them. But when she receives her first royal patron—Rook, the autumn prince—she makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes – a weakness that could cost him his life.

Furious and devastated, Rook spirits her away to the autumnlands to stand trial for her crime. Waylaid by the Wild Hunt’s ghostly hounds, the tainted influence of the Alder King, and hideous monsters risen from barrow mounds, Isobel and Rook depend on one another for survival. Their alliance blossoms into trust, then love, violating the fair folks’ ruthless Good Law. There’s only one way to save both their lives, Isobel must drink from the Green Well, whose water will transform her into a fair one—at the cost of her Craft, for immortality is as stagnant as it is timeless.

Isobel has a choice: she can sacrifice her art for a future, or arm herself with paint and canvas against the ancient power of the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: for the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel
