MEMORABLE MONDAY

 memorable monday 1

Memorable Monday is a meme hosted by Escape in a Good Book. I’m excited to join in on this one because I love quotes, which was the driving force behind the creation of Memorable Mondays.

So… how do you participate? It’s simple ~

1) Share a quote that has captured your interest lately in a Memorable Monday post on your blog.

2) Come back here and leave the link to your post in the comment box below. If you don’t have a blog, I’d still love to read your quote. Leave it in the comment box instead of a link to a non-existent blog.:)

3) Visit other participants if you have time. It’s always nice to have visitors. There’s no overstaying your welcome this way, and they don’t have to offer the obligatory drinks. Or clean.

4) If you tweet your posts, feel free to use the hashtag #MemorableMonday.

BLURB:

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy’s mom finds out, she knows it’s time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he’ll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

REVIEW:

This is a hugely popular road-trip / quest style novel. I loved the mixture of Greek Mythology with summer camp and road trip tropes. Percy was a fun character who developed through the novel as he discovers his ancestry and a whole new world that he must now navigate. The cast of characters here is so wide and incorporates so many different elements of Greek Mythology. This middle grade novel was so fun and the adventure was cute which led to an engaging read.

SWINGING AT LOVE

BLURB:

Outfielder Tristan Murrell has a problem. As the number two slugger for the Suttonville Sentinels, his team is counting on him to make their very first run at the state championship. But he has a secret—his swing has totally deserted him. As in, he can’t hit anything. He needs to fix the issue, and fast, but how?

Ballerina Alyssa Kaplan has a problem, too. The shiny new sports complex in town has left her family’s batting cage business on the verge of going under. Nailing her audition for a prestigious dance company is everything, but there’s no way she’s letting her some shiny big-box company destroy her family’s livelihood.

Tristan needs a miracle. So does Alyssa. And maybe, just maybe, Tristan’s secret weapon might be the girl of his dreams…

alb-divider

REVIEW:

This is a fun and sweet contemporary sports romance with great characters and a cute storyline. Baseball plays a major part in the storyline. Alyssa’s family owns a set of batting cages where Tristan comes to work on his swing. The passion for baseball these two share was fabulous. These two were really adorable and there were definitely some steamy scenes in here. This was a lovely, light-hearted and fun sports romance that I really enjoyed.

FIRST LINES FRIDAYS

first line

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:

Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page.

Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first…

Finally… reveal the book!

alb-divider

On the day we’re the last people to see indie kid Finn alive, we’ve all sprawled together in the Field, talking about love and stomachs.

alb-divider

The book this first line is from is:

THE REST OF US JUST LIVE HERE BY PATRICK NESS

rest of us just live here

alb-divider

BLURB:

What if you aren’t the Chosen One?

The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?

What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.

Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.

Even if your best friend is worshipped by mountain lions…

COVER LUST FRIDAY

Cover Lust Friday1

Cover Lust Friday is a meme I have recently come across and it looked really fun. Cover Lust Friday is a weekly meme that’s all about covers. Alice from Alice Reeds is the host of this meme.

Pick a cover that stands out to you , add your reason why you’ve chosen that particular one or what you like about it. Let’s have fun and share some gorgeous covers.

THE COVER:

THE REASON:

This is really just a fun cover with the big bold text taking up most of the cover. There is little images surrounding the text that I assume link into different elements of the book. This is just a cover that makes me smile.

REVIEW:

Starting right where book one left off leaves the readers feeling like they never left the world that Kaitlyn Davis created in Frost. There is development of plot lines that were introduced in Book 1 and more from kickass Pandora that I absolutely loved. This book kept me as intrigued as the first one with action and plot twists and an amazing protagonist. I loved the link to Pandora’s box and a new unique take on it. I love that I can follow the magic system and the plot of this fantasy novel. I don’t have to wade through an encyclopaedia of references before I get the gist of what is happening and I greatly appreciate that. Seriously, just give this series a go. Pick up Frost and follow it up with Freeze. You will not be disappointed, I wasn’t.
