BLURB:

When your luck runs out, do you run away—or do you stay and fight?

Bailey: Let’s get one thing straight. I am not your typical girl. Sure I’ve got all the parts, but I’ve been a stubborn, irreverent tomboy since the womb, as my Irish father would proudly attest. Despite my Irish blood, I’ve had a bit of bad luck here and there—I recently trusted the wrong guy and got derailed in my professional pursuits. But I’ve bounced back. With my shields firmly in place, I thought nothing, or no one, could touch me again. Until he did. And he just might make this tomboy do the girliest thing in the world—fall head over heels in love. Of all the damn luck…

Jake: I’m a pretty lucky guy. I have a phenomenal family, a career I love, and I’m building a brand-new life back in my hometown. And, not to be a jerk about it, but I do more than all right with the ladies. Everything’s been going according to plan—like I said, I’m a lucky guy.
That was, until my luck ran out. Until I met the girl I call “Irish.”
Irony can go kiss my a$$.

REVIEW:

This adorable romantic comedy of a novel did not fail to leave me with a grin to rival the Cheshire Cat by the conclusion of the book. There were so many heartwarming and funny moments in this book that left me feeling wonderful.

I found Bailey’s relationship with Rocco to be adorable. The fact that she was struggling to babysit the boy and there were so many issues with regards to looking a child brought a level of authenticity to the novel that I particularly enjoyed.

Jake and Bailey both come with their own baggage and insecurities and it only added to the believability of these characters. Seeing the two work through this was half the enjoyability of the novel.

Overall, a heartwarming, treasure of a novel that is the true definition of romantic comedy. This is the third novel in the Carolina Connections series, I have read all three and loved every single one. They truly are feel good novels.

MEMORABLE MONDAY

memorable monday 1

Memorable Monday is a meme hosted by Escape in a Good Book. I’m excited to join in on this one because I love quotes, which was the driving force behind the creation of Memorable Mondays.

So… how do you participate? It’s simple ~

1) Share a quote that has captured your interest lately in a Memorable Monday post on your blog.

2) Come back here and leave the link to your post in the comment box below. If you don’t have a blog, I’d still love to read your quote. Leave it in the comment box instead of a link to a non-existent blog.:)

3) Visit other participants if you have time. It’s always nice to have visitors. There’s no overstaying your welcome this way, and they don’t have to offer the obligatory drinks. Or clean.

4) If you tweet your posts, feel free to use the hashtag #MemorableMonday.

The quote for this week is:

BLURB:

Wren Tigarian is a forbidden blend of snow leopard and white tiger who can pass as human. Marguerite, a law student and senator’s daughter, lives among the rich and the powerful. Both feel alone until Wren saves Marguerite from a mugging. A tentative, passionate romance builds quickly, threatened by the potential impact of hidden secrets and public lies. Will it survive before the Were-Hunters kill Wren or before her enemies kill Marguerite?

REVIEW:

In this continuation to the Dark Hunter series readers get a more in depth look at the Were Hunter world, especially Sanctuary. In true fashion for this series the characters were likeable and the plot was fantastic. The pacing was consistent and had me hooked all the way through.

Marguerite is a smart and vibrant character who enters this world she knows nothing about. Wren has been abused and misunderstood his whole life. He is viewed as vicious and not to be trusted. Through the love of Marguerite he comes out of his shell and readers can see that there is more to Wren than meets the eye. This pair are too sweet and their developing relationship through the book really pulled on my heartstrings.

This is a great addition to the Dark Hunter series. Getting a look at the Were Hunter side of this world Sherrilyn Kenyon has created was an absolute pleasure. I loved these two characters and the side characters in this book. Amazing.

BLURB:

MaryJanice Davidson creates an alternate contemporary world nearly identical to ours in which Russia never sold the Alaskan territory to the United States. Instead, Alaska has won its independence and established itself as a constitutional monarchy…and now, the King of Alaska badly needs a bride for his son and heir… The country of Alaska is as forbidding as it is beautiful. And the royal family is as rough-around-the-edges as they are coolly civilized. Other royal families may find them shocking, but after all, in this wilderness kingdom, being a crack shot and expert trapper is just as important as knowing your salad fork from your dessert fork. Unfortunately, when the rest of the royals find you mildly savage, marrying off your royal brood can be a royal pain. King Alexander II is desperate. Why, he’d settle for any girl. A commoner. An American, even! Stranded tourist Christina Krabbe is American, and a commoner, but she has zero interest in enduring a royal wedding, producing royal heirs, and becoming Queen of Alaska…until she gets a good look at Prince David. He may be a bit unruly–actually, the words untamed and slightly dangerous come to mind–but Christina’s no delicate flower herself. And when His Highness discovers Christina can give as good as she gets, he’s Prince Charmed, if not quite charming. But can a wild man Prince and a modern American girl make a life together? And will the palace still be standing when the dust clears?

REVIEW:

This is really a charming little novel. It’s an alternate history novel, where the only big change is that Alaska is its own seperate country, not connected to the United States. Alaska is ruled by a particularly quirky monarchy. When an American girl enters the royal family there is nothing but hilarious times ahead.

All the characters here had their own quirky charm. From the King, Al, who enjoys fishing has a fun sense of humour and disguises himself to go fishing. To Prince David who has a PhD in Marine Biology and a fascination for Penguins. The other royal siblings are without their quirks too. Christina brings with her a dry sense of humour and an unshakable determination to be herself, even if she does become Queen.

The relationship between Christina and David develops through the book and slowly builds. This makes for an interesting read with a slow build romance that was thoroughly enjoyable.

Overall, a funny royal romance with some dry, snarky humour. The characters were fun and the character development believable. The plot had drama, love and family with great pacing.

UNBOXING: MAY 2017 FANDOM OF THE MONTH CLUB BOX

IMG_0185

Fandom of the Month Club is a monthly subscription service based out of the U.S. They create fantastic Fandom inspired jewellery and each month a box will focus on a particular fandom. But it’s a surprise… you don’t know what the fandom will be until you open the box.

alb-divider

IMG_0186

This is what you see when you first open the box.

IMG_0187

The first item out of the box is the postcard with a teaser to the fandom featured in the box. Can you guess what it is?

IMG_0188

I can honestly say I was stumped at the fandom at this point and had to look it up. The fandom was Legend of Zelda. This is the magnet included in the box. The little blue ball is apparently Navi and “Hey Listen” is apparently his catch phrase.

IMG_0189

Each month the jewellery is sent out in a specially designed pouch. What do you think of this pouch?

IMG_0190

The first jewellery item in the box is this necklace. It is themed after Ocarina of Time. The little circles are meant to be the buttons you press to play Link’s Ocarina.

IMG_0191

The second item is this Zelda Rupee Bracelet.

IMG_0193

The third item is this set of Zelda Triforce Stud Earrings. These are cute.

IMG_0194

The final jewellery item is a Zelda Triforce Hylian Shield Ring.

While I am not a Zelda fan I appreciate the items in this box and am considering looking into trying out Zelda. I might like it. What do you think?

SEARCHING SATURDAY

searching-saturday

Searching Saturday is a new weekly meme created by Nikki at The Night is Dark and Full of Books! The aim is to search a book (or multiple books) that is new to you and fits the weekly theme. This could be a book to add to your TBR, or just to address on your blog. It’s up to you! You can search as many as you want, wherever you want.

This weeks topic is: Books with Something Extra

alb-divider

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

illuminae

This is an amazing Sci-Fi book with a mixed media format. The sequel is written in the same way. I absolutely loved the unique element of this book.

Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

eliza and her monsters

The art in this book is showing the creative process of the protagonist. It allows for an interesting perspective of the main character.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

miss peregrines home for peculiar children

The author has incorporated old creepy photos into the book that adds something extra.

We Are Still Tornadoes by Michael Kun & Susan Mullen

we-are-still-tornadoes

This book is told exclusively in letters backwards and forwards between the two protagonists.

The Shadow Queen by C.J Redwine

Look at this absolutely stunning book map that was included in this book! It is amazing.
