Frost (Midnight Ice Book One)
by Kaitlyn Davis
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Release date: January 26th 2017alb-divider

BLURB:

Even the hottest love can turn a girl cold-blooded…

Life’s tough for a vampire thief on the run—just ask Pandora Scott, she knows. Four years ago she ran away from home after everyone she loved betrayed her. But now her annoyingly grown up (and handsome) ex boyfriend is stalking her, begging her to return. A mysterious vamp with a particularly dangerous (and sexy) stare keeps popping unexpectedly into her life. The extremely powerful head vampire of New York is hunting her down because she may or may not have broken into his highly-secure, highly-secretive personal vault. And the fate she’s been trying to outrun? Well, it’s about to catch up. Because even a super-speedy vamp with the ability to disappear can’t escape her own destiny.

alb-divider

REVIEW:

Mixing vampires, titans and conduits into a spectacular book with a new and interesting mythology.

Pandora is a vampire who used to be a titan but ran away from that life for a reason she can’t remember. Jax, her ex finds her and vows to take her back to the titans and cure her of vampirism. This road trip-esque adventure was amazing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved Jax and Pandora (Dory) and the sparks that rekindled through the book. The plot was fast paced and enjoyable. I felt a connection to these characters and their quirks though the book. The ending of this book was such a cliffhanger and I am stuck with a need to know what is going to happen to Pandora and if she will be ok.

Someone has been cutting up demons and removing their body parts, and this doesn’t make sense to doctors Eidolon and Shade, the only surgeons in the world who care exclusively for demons.

alb-divider

REVIEW:

This sexy paranormal romance was certainly an interesting take on demons.

Where many species of demons live on Earth and not all are bad, there is a hospital that specialises in these species. As Taylor is a hunter and knows no other life she is surprised to come across this hospital and the sexy doctor, Eidolon, who is an irresistible incubus. The relationship between these two characters steamed up the pages and was wonderful to read about. The different characters were unique with interesting and sometimes a little scary personalities. The plot was engaging and on beat. This was a quick read for me. The different demons and potential of this series were evident the further through the book I got.

For those that are missing Lost Girl, I recommend you give this series a shot. I certainly didn’t regret it.

TAG TUESDAY – NETFLIX BOOK TAG

This is my first ever Tag Tuesday. The idea of this is that every Tuesday I will look for a tag to complete as something different for this blog. This should be fun.

alb-divider

netslix and books challenge.png

Thanks to Novel Ink & Bookmark Lit for hosting this wonderful tag!!

GENERAL RULES FOR THE TAG:

Choose a book or book series that best matches the prompt provided
Feel free to change the TV show if you’d like it to reflect YOUR preferences!
A blank set of the prompts is located at the very bottom in the scroll box
Feel free to use our header graphic with the usual credits
Link back to us and tag some friends to join in!

alb-divider

GAME OF THRONES | UNLIKEABLE CHARACTER(S)

For this prompt I have chosen What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler. Now don’t get me wrong, I loved this book. But the excuses and rape culture that permeated manny of the characters led me to dislike them immensely.

alb-divider

GREY’S ANATAMOY | YOUR SHIP SANK OR DIDN’T HAPPEN

Now, everyone loves a good ship or OTP, and generally I stick with the masses and what the authors had us towards. But, Sarah J. Maas throws in plot twist and romantic switch-a-roo’s like no-body’s business. For this prompt I have chosen Throne of Glass by Srah J. Maas. I have been shipping Celaena and Dorian and am just coming to terms that it just isn’t going to happen.

alb-divider

FRIENDS | BEST CAST OF CHARACTERS/FRIENDSHIPS

I absolutely love the cast of characters in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. They are so well thought out and are the best bunch of friends I have read about.

alb-divider

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS | HATE THAT YOU LOVE OR GUILTY PLEASURE

My guilty pleasure book is Lick by Kylie Scott, the whole series really. I love the Rock Star romance in this series and pick it up when I need a good New Adult romance.

alb-divider

DOCTOR WHO | LONG SERIES YOU LOVED

Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, I don’t think I need to explain this.

alb-divider

VAMPIRE DIARIES | ALL THE FEELS

I have recently finished The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon and it definitely gave me all the feels.

alb-divider

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER | BAD ENDING

There was really one book for this prompt. Allegiant by Veronica Roth didn’t necessarily have a bad ending and it did work for the story, but it just wasn’t the one I really wanted.

alb-divider

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER | FAVORITE PARANORMAL/FANTASY

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas is currently my favourite Fantasy / Paranormal read. This book is absolutely amazing.

alb-divider

FIREFLY | LEFT YOU WANTING MORE

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee was definitely a compelling read and I am certainly ready for more in this series, too bad it’s sequel doesn’t come out til later this year.

alb-divider

ONE TREE HILL | SERIES THAT SHOULD HAVE ENDED EARLIER

The House of Night series by P.C and Kristen Cast is extremely long and it felt like it dragged on at times. That is not to say I did not enjoy the series, but maybe a book or two shorter would have worked as well.

alb-divider

DOWNTON ABBEY | SET IN A DIFFERENT TIME PERIOD

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows is my favourite book of 2016. It is an alternate history book and is set in the Tudor era.

alb-divider

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK | COULDN’T STOP READING

Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst was a book I finished recently and I simply hated putting it down, I had to finish it ASAP!

alb-divider

PARKS AND RECREATION | MADE YOU LAUGH OUT LOUD

The situations the characters in Kiss Cam by Kiara London got into left me in stitches.

alb-divider

TRUE BLOOD | FAVORITE BOOK BOYFRIEND

Khalid from The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adhieh is my favourite book boyfriend. He values Sharazad for her intelligence and strength and looks at her as a partner, also their chemistry is awesome!

alb-divider

BREAKING BAD | FAVORITE VILLAIN

The Darkling from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo is such a great villain. Al through the book the reader grows to care for this character and then they learn his truly horrible plans.

alb-divider

MODERN FAMILY | BEST FAMILY OR PARENTS

The family relationships in Slammed by Colleen Hoover is one of the most heart-touching that I have ever read.

alb-divider

I have really enjoyed doing this tag, comparing elements of some amazing TV Shows to some of my favourite books. If you wish to complete this tag too, than I tag you… if you complete this tag then please leave a link in the comments so that I can see your choices as well.

BLURB:

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

alb-divider

REVIEW:

The Sun is Also A Star is told in the first person, following the lives of Natasha and Daniel over the course of one day. Natasha is a Jamaican immigrant who travelled to America at eight with her mother and father and is now being deported because her family is in Amierca illegally. Natasha is a realist and does not believe in love or passion, but loves science. She loves Astrophysics. Daniel is a Korean-American and his family have plans for him to go to Yale and become a doctor, even if this is not what Daniel is passionate about. The examination of two very different personalities and cultures falling in love over one day and the understanding that in the entire universe no differences really matter. Sometimes when the main character makes an observation about other characters a little perspective is gained by quickly flashing to their circumstances and lives in the third-person. Periodically, there are explanations of different concepts introduced through the book. This creates a sense of a larger, grand design, as if Natasha and Daniel are two small pieces in the greater infinity of the universe, the butterfly effect. This briefly takes you away from the main story-line and allows the reader a chance to digest what is happening. This was greatly appreciated. This was a heart-wrenching and eye opening novel that blew me away.

Memorable Monday is a meme hosted by Escape in a Good Book. I’m excited to join in on this one because I love quotes, which was the driving force behind the creation of Memorable Mondays.

So… how do you participate? It’s simple ~

1) Share a quote that has captured your interest lately in a Memorable Monday post on your blog.

2) Come back here and leave the link to your post in the comment box below. If you don’t have a blog, I’d still love to read your quote. Leave it in the comment box instead of a link to a non-existent blog.:)

3) Visit other participants if you have time. It’s always nice to have visitors. There’s no overstaying your welcome this way, and they don’t have to offer the obligatory drinks. Or clean.

4) If you tweet your posts, feel free to use the hashtag #MemorableMonday.

Betrothed since childhood to the prince of Mynaria, Princess Dennaleia has always known what her future holds. Her marriage will seal the alliance between Mynaria and her homeland, protecting her people from other hostile lands. But Denna has a secret. She possesses an Affinity for fire—a dangerous gift for the future queen of a kingdom where magic is forbidden.

Now, Denna must learn the ways of her new home while trying to hide her growing magic. To make matters worse, she must learn to ride Mynaria’s formidable warhorses—and her teacher is the person who intimidates her most, the prickly and unconventional Princess Amaranthine—called Mare—the sister of her betrothed.

When a shocking assassination leaves the kingdom reeling, Mare and Denna reluctantly join forces to search for the culprit. As the two become closer, Mare is surprised by Denna’s intelligence and bravery, while Denna is drawn to Mare’s independent streak. And soon their friendship is threatening to blossom into something more.

But with dangerous conflict brewing that makes the alliance more important than ever, acting on their feelings could be deadly. Forced to choose between their duty and their hearts, Mare and Denna must find a way to save their kingdoms—and each other.

REVIEW:

A brand new, unique and stunning voice in the High Fantasy genre. The idea of two princesses falling in love is one I have not read before. This book had everything I love in High Fantasy while adding a diverse element to the narrative which made this book a unique treasure. There was action, there was adventure, there was romance and there was magic. The story was told in alternating first person perspectives of Mare and Denna. Both characters had unique and interesting voices and I enjoyed reading from both perspectives. From the time Denna gets to the royal court, the pace maintains a quick pace that kept me hooked. The romance and the magic could have overwhelmed each other, vying for the top priority in the plot in this book. However, both elements weaved together and one did not overwhelm the other as both were integrated into the storyline. This awesome diverse fantasy book was an absolute pleasure to read and deserves all of its five stars that I am rating this book.
